It’s billiards. It’s golf. It’s a physics puzzler. It’s a shooter. It’s a fireworks simulator. It’s a space visualizer. It’s Atomworks! Is there anything this game can’t do?
In this simple, unique, and exceptionally well polished game, your only goal is to get the ball into the black hole. You do this by firing blasts which explode outward from different angles and distances, manipulating the ball in the direction you want it to go. For every three levels, you only have a set number of shots to accomplish this in. Also, don’t accidentally send the ball hurtling down through space, because it will pick up speed and become a destructive meteor, crashing down into Earth and potentially killing thousands!
Okay, I made the last part up. It makes everything seem just that much more urgent though, doesn’t it? Feel free to embrace my theory and you will play better for it!
The game really shines in the details. The art, like the music, is simple, yet beautiful. The game is relaxing to play and rewarding as you progress. One of my favourite aspects is the way the black holes were designed; if your ball gets close enough to them, the hole draws it in like a magnet. The way this is visualized is really cool, kind of like the ball is being attacked by that black Venom symbiote from Spiderman 3. Say what you want about that movie, but I think the symbiote was awesome. Case closed.
Atomworks is an excellent little game which the developer has clearly put work into and is still passionate about. Anyone can enjoy it, so give it a go. Atomwork it, baby!
